History Of Dental Braces

Posted on 7/4/2022 by Office
History Of Dental BracesThe majority of individuals get braces when they are still in their teenage years; nevertheless, a growing number of adults are getting braces later in life for the goal of correcting oral issues.

Christophe-Francois Delabarre is credited with the invention of modern braces in 1819. In the 1700s, French dentists made significant advancements in dentistry, some of the most prominent of which were the fabrication of personalized mouth guards and the extraction of wisdom teeth to alleviate overcrowding. On the other hand, Delabarre was the inventor of the device that served as the progenitor of modern-day braces.

Ancient Romans First Attempted To Straighten Crooked Teeth

The ancient Romans were the ones who made the first effort to correct misaligned teeth in live people. Aulus Cornelius Celsus described his efforts to straighten teeth with the power of his hand by putting pressure at specific regular locations along the tooth's surface.

Celsus claimed that his trials were successful; however, verifying his findings in light of modern research is challenging. We are aware that for many years, archeologists have discovered Roman cemeteries in which the bones of the deceased had a thin gold wire wrapped around their teeth or what was left of them. There is speculation that the wire, sometimes known as a ligature wire, was used for a purpose similar to what Celsus had in mind.
