How do you get a cavity under a sealant?

How do you get a cavity under a sealant?Getting a cavity under a sealant is possible and the dentist will still recommend that you get sealants especially for children. A dentist will teach you that sealants offer protection of the tooth enamel for some time but not forever. A sealant will eventually wear out and you will get a cavity.

Poor oral hygiene

When you fail to brush and floss the teeth often you are likely to have a cavity. Having a dental sealant does not mean that you fail to take care of your teeth by brushing and flossing. Make it a habit and routine to floss and brush daily for this will protect the tooth enamel from eroding and causing tooth decay. The food particles get in between the teeth and they accumulate forming plaque. Plaque is sticky and if it stays for long without being removed it can lead to tartar formation. The spaces that they have accumulated will be eroded by acid after it combines with mouth bacteria.

What Poor Oral hygiene can lead to

If the plaque from not brushing and flossing regularly builds up enough, the gums then develop gingivitis which is a mild form of gum disease. This can advance and bring about periodontal gum disease. The area gets infected and decays causing tooth decay. This will happen even if there is a sealant on the tooth surfaces and will happen after oral hygiene which is brushing and flossing has been neglected. Our dentist will tell you that whatever artificial placed on the mouth or teeth will at one time expire or need repair and having regular dental visits will ensure that these oral issues are detected and resolved.
