What We Pay Attention to Most During Your Regular Exams
Posted on 9/21/2021 by Office
The most important aspect of your regular dental exam is the careful inspection of any tooth decay and resulting cavities in your teeth. If these problems are not addressed, the inside of your tooth may become infected. This is a problem as infection can spread from your tooth to the root and to the rest of your body.
What We Do During Your Dental Exam
While checking for tooth decay and cavities on your teeth is the most important aspect of your exam, we also look for other issues as well. We look for any evidence of oral cancer as most mouth or throat cancers are initially diagnosed from the dental chair. We also look for any signs of gum disease, which could lead to tooth loss if left unchecked. We also check your joints on the side of your face to make sure they are functioning well, and you do not have soreness or misalignment in your jaw.
Dental Cleanings Are a Critical Part of Your Exam
In addition to examining your total oral health picture, we take pride in thoroughly cleaning your teeth and gums. We use special tools to remove plaque and tartar deposits. We also floss and polish your teeth. During this stage of the exam, we educate the patient on how to best care for their mouth.
Schedule Your Routine Cleaning
It is important to prioritize your routine cleaning and exams. We would like to see you in our office every six months as plaque and tartar can develop even if you have a good oral hygiene routine. Call our office to schedule your next dental exam.
We look forward to working with you and educating you so that you can have the best oral hygiene possible.
