5 Foods That Cause Teeth Stain
If you want that million-watt smile of your dreams, good oral hygiene is a must. However, you also need to take care of what you eat. Some food and beverages can discolor your teeth over time. So if you want to protect your pearly-teeth, you should know about what kind of food have the potential to stain your teeth.

Pasta Sauce

Although not many realize this, pasta sauce can stain your teeth. The bright red color and acidity of the tomatoes in the sauce can make your teeth yellow over time but that doesn't mean you need to avoid eating this. Just chew on some dark leafy greens like spinach, broccoli, and kale, which can form a protective film over your teeth and prevent them from discoloring.

Curry

Curry is an Indian spice which is used in many exotic cuisines. However, its bright yellow pigmentation can stain your teeth. Because of its high staining abilities, you may want to limit use of the spice, or mix it with fresh fruit and veggies, like apples, cauliflower, carrots, and celery.

Balsamic Vinegar

Balsamic vinegar is a delicious and healthy salad dressing but it can discolor your teeth. The dark color can stick to your teeth and can lead to stains if you don't brush them quickly. But the good thing is that crunchy lettuce from your salad can help clean away the stains as you eat.

Berries

Berries have powerful antioxidants, but raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and cranberries have dark pigmentation which can darken your teeth, no matter in which form you eat them. To reduce the staining effect, you can follow it by water, milk, or hard cheese, which work to neutralize the acidity and strengthen the enamel.

Beverages

Beverages, including tea, coffee, red wine, cola, and sports drinks can stain your teeth because of their acidity. Sports drink and white tea can even erode the enamel while sodas can encourage additional stains from forming. Even white wine causes stain as it can damage the enamel, so limit your intake of these beverages.

A healthy diet and moderation while eating can prevent tooth stains. If you eat food that can potentially stain your teeth, make sure to rinse your mouth so that your teeth always stay shiny. If you have teeth stains, and at Joshua Austin, DDS FAGD FACD can whiten your teeth. To schedule an appointment, call us at (210) 408-7999 today.
