This rinse will wash away plaque and bacteria, and it can help with the inflammation that may be causing your soreness. Just make sure that the water isn't too hot, or you could suffer from burns.Switch to a Soft-Bristled BrushUsing a toothbrush with overly hard bristles could also be the cause of your discomfort. That's why you should only use toothbrushes with soft bristles, and make sure you brush both firmly and gently. Over-aggressive brushing could damage the gums and eventually lead to recession.Add a Mouthwash to Your Oral Hygiene RoutineCertain mouthwash options can also benefit your gums. Those that contain hydrogen peroxide will fight off bacteria that could lead to gum disease, which often results in soreness and inflammation.Use an Over-the-Counter MedicationIf the previously mentioned tips don't seem to work, try and over-the-counter medication.Painkillers like acetaminophen can help with discomfort, while ibuprofen fights inflammation. You can also find Anbesol and similar gels at your local pharmacy, and when applied directly to the sore gums, you may be able to find some relief.
