How to Protect Your Oral Health While Traveling

How to Protect Your Oral Health While TravelingYou're finally on vacation – you've been saving up and planning this trip for ages, and the time has finally come.

You're dreaming of all the sights you'll see, all the pictures you'll take, and of course, all the delicious foods you're going to eat.

Just because you're traveling, however, doesn't mean that you can take this chance to neglect your oral hygiene. Enjoy your trip, but also set aside some time to plan for good oral health while you're on vacation!

Make Taking Care of Your Teeth Part of Your Travel Routine

Nobody wants to be sitting down with a map open in front of them, their whole day ahead of them full of sights and wonders and have to deal with nagging tooth problems.

Preventing any issues from arising while you travel can help ward off any unwanted emergency dental trips that may sully the memories of your otherwise perfect vacation!

•  Pack a mini travel kit. Keep small-sized versions of your essentials on hand at all times, including toothpaste, dental floss, and your toothbrush.
•  Balance your indulgences with healthy snacks. If it is safe to eat and drink in the region where you are traveling, reach for fresh cut fruits and veggies to snack on between meals. Drink plenty of water, too! If it's not safe to drink the water, use bottled water to brush your teeth. Avoid crunching on hard foods that can damage your teeth.
•  Research the area before you go. If you do have unforeseen circumstances arise, at least you will know where the nearest emergency dentist is!
•  Let your toothbrush air dry between uses. Avoid packing a damp toothbrush back into your luggage. A wet toothbrush can harbor bacteria and is more likely to grow mold. Yuck!

Don't let tooth pain ruin your dream vacation. By planning ahead, you can avoid a lot of the stress that could otherwise put a damper on your trip.

Before you leave, be sure to give our office a call to schedule a comprehensive dental exam and cleaning and ensure your teeth are in tip-top shape before your trip!
